New Apple iPod Nano

Postby docgoku on Thu Sep 08, 2005 2:12 pm

Well, I've never bought a personal music player as meal and 82 know. There's somethings I thought I would just never use...besides I have xm radio for the wagon.

Well, that's now changed. 2GB for $199 and 4GB for $249....I'll probally get one of these.

The black on on the left is the photo storage version. Cant get too much on the 2gig version, but the 4 will hold a few.
Be good to each other.

I'm never going to carry around more than a few GB of stuff anyway.....so a large iPod was never "must" for me... I don't even use my 1GB flash drive. What a waste of $60 that was...eBay sale for that one.

The nano will allow me to play my mp3 and that damn apple format in my car though....and I could carry around some files.

Both versions can hold photos, just one is black the other is white. I'd get the black...but I'm waiting b/c I'm not sure they will ship to me in the UK. When it gets closer to October I think about getting one. Glad to hear you saw one JD, and they looked and worked just fine...

7262 songs as of this morning.

When you have to have an ample supply of Hall & Oates for Crabb, you start to fill stuff up.

I would buy it but it doesnt have an am/fm tuner. If you are looking to purchase some small for mainly the gym a tuner is a MUST. IMO why spend $200-$300 when the wankers wont even put radio in it. I mean there are smaller and lighter versions out there for half the price that have the radio built in. I guess just because its an ipod it will sell huh?

who listens to the radio?

in my experience, ipods are much easier to use/navigate and itunes is the premier interface - plus their design kicks every body elses ass

If you are in the market for a small mp3 device you are probably going to use it at the gym. In that case a radio is a must. They tune all the tv's to radio stations, so if you purchase an overpriced, bulky mp3 player (ipod) then you will never be able to listen to the tv. Plus, some people listen to sports talk radio, guess what, not people with ipods. ipods are good for music library storage and the newer ones do look pretty sweet, but there are many mp3 players what are actually smaller and look better, get your head out of your ass.

i havent seen any small mp3 player look sweeter than the nano - nor anything as thin or as easy to use.
if you need a radio, then you have a good point.

I don't really give a flying F about having the radio. I just want music....do you ever really use the FM, I don't ever see you running on the treadmill watching TV....

Here's what I've found on PriceGrabber that's over 2GB
Philips HDD070 2GB MP3 Player
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getp ... +player+FM
--has fm, but bigger then the nano...and only $10 cheaper if not a refurb.

Motorola M500 5GB MP3 Player
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_tech ... id=3142355
-- $30 cheaper, and get's more room... w/ FM...but it's not near as small. Not going to be wearing this square on your arm. 4oz compared to 1.5oz nano
-- Also HD based so get ready for the skipage...nano is solid state memory.

Creative Nomad MuVo2 5GB MP3 Player
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getp ... +player+FM
-- $30 cheaper than the 4GB nano
-- 4oz and .8in thick... nano 1.5oz and .27in thick HD based

iRiver H10 5GB MP3 Player
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_tech ... id=6728607
-- about $30 cheaper too... but also 3.3oz and hd based.

JetAudio iAudio G3 2GB MP3 Player

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_tech ... id=7548695
-- equally expensive but is light at 1.27oz just a bit thick at .67in, is flash memory based...good...but
-- Who is iAudio??

So if you look at the size of the nano and the technology (solid state memory) there really isn't anything it's size out there. Sure FM radio would've been nice but I really don't care....so....for ME it's the best fit right now. Now, if I can bear spending 278 for the 4GB black one and a red arm band. :) I didn't buy that $300 exhaust system I wanted for the mazda..... :???:

Well, its not really about needing a radio, it about if you ever wanted to use it, you couldnt. I mean for the obsurd amount of money they want for these ipods you would think that would give it a f'in radio. It does look sweet but there are alot smaller players out there. I mean meal and I each have one and we didnt pay half that price.

My point is that there are alternatives out there that are actually better deals than an ipod, its just that people get an ipod cause its an ipod. I dont know when this started but it has caught on. I have a samsung right now and I know meal has had an iriver and now a samsung, I went to get the wife an ipod mini last month and walked out of the store saying, how could they charge so much for somthing that doesnt have half the functionality as mine, it was has half the price.

I started to pay for music about 2 years ago. Once the lawsuits starting comming down on individuals I knew the RIAA had records of all the file sharing services....IP addresses to be more specific. So, if the RIAA wanted they could go after every single downloader on the internet. I decided to take myself out of that lawsuit pool. :) If the FBI or anyone started to investigate my computer activity I would be in a lot more trouble than downloading music. #-o

Yours and meals are less than 1GB though.... that's why they are small.

Yes, the whole iPod brand thing is crazy. NP there...but it's not really that much of a price premium when you look at how much they could charge for the technology and brand image....aka $100 sneakers.

I need a radio more than I need storage for 2000 songs, how bout that? Its not about me running the tread mill every day, its about spending $300 and NEVER having that option.

Plus I just saved $150....

plus now I dont have a bulky mp3 player to mess with at the gym.

As Doc just pointed out - cost wise it is in line with others that have similar memory

82 wrote: It does look sweet but there are alot smaller players out there.

This thing is pretty fuckin small - ther isnt anything thinner or probably lighter.

no, i pay for very little of my music, but i think itunes is the best software for managing my music and interfacing with my mp3 player.
